1. You call or send a request

   Tell us your community or cove and what you need: a new dock, a boathouse or roof, a boat or PWC lift, repairs, or shoreline riprap.

2. We connect you with a local company

   Calls and requests go to an independent dock builder or shoreline contractor that works on Smith Mountain Lake.

3. The company handles the job

   They quote, schedule and do the work. Pricing, warranties and terms come from them directly.

What we are and aren't

Smith Mountain Lake Dock Builders is a referral service, not a contractor. We don't send crews or employ technicians, and we don't set prices. Using the site is free for homeowners.

Appalachian Power has to approve a dock under its Shoreline Management Plan before the county will issue a building permit, and the application needs a survey from a licensed surveyor and the deeded owner's signature. Ask the builder for their Virginia contractor license class and number, proof of insurance, who will coordinate the survey and drawings, how they'll handle the county building permit, and to put the design, schedule and warranty in a written contract.
